Background
Ongoing client Bluebet, entrusted us with their 2020 redesign. We drew inspiration from a pitch presentation for a potential US partnership.
The goals were to improve design, performance and add high revenue products.
My role
- Lead the design team whilst mentoring a junior designer
- Designed and developed interfaces and React components ready for backend integration
- Created a process of colaboration with the development team to work in a single codebase
The details
- Designed by Artisan Digital and developed by Stride Solutions from 2020 - 2021
- Website bluebet.com.au
- This was a redesign of Bluebet 2016
The timeframe was tight so we only wire-framed the complex areas such as racecards, fields, markets and the betslip.
We had designed screens for a recent US partnership pitch. Bluebet loved the attention grabbing and bold design. We toned this down for the real project. This ensured it wasn't too removed from the current version we were replacing. It also made marketing content easier for Bluebet to manage.
The mobile experience hadn't received much attention in 2016. We wanted to make sure that it was up-to-date and as user-friendly as possible. We wanted users to have the same great experience they have on the Bluebet native apps.
We got into code as soon as possible. Design evaluated in the browser immediately. Continuous integration was set up from the outset so stakeholders could track progress. A branching strategy ensured designers and developers could collaborate on features. The design team would build up and test the design with local data. Api's hooked up when ready. We utilised Next JS, Redux and Material UI on the frontend.
Besides the redesign, we addressed mobile pain points from the 2016 website. We reduced scrolling long pages. We utilised modern usability patterns such as dialogs, side and bottom drawers. We made sure they were accessible. We abstracted information from the UI and reduced its visual complexity.
The redesign introduced industry standard products and features to improve revenue. The usability of products and features added since 2016 also addressed.
Thanks to everyone from Bluebet, Stride Solutions and Artisan Digital. The project delivered on time and budget. It was great to be part of a redesign of a product. It was especially cathartic to redesign my own work and address issues from the original. Mentoring a junior designer throughout the process was especially rewarding.
